Material Handler in US-Cedar City-UT, United States

Position Summary

This position is distinguished from Wetout production by the performance of loading and unloading material, dispositions material, supply work stations (lines) with raw product, ensure that material is properly marked and stored and would also perform production and maintenance functions as required.  The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the forklift vehicle. Support the production team by operating machinery, assembling parts and performing other related work as instructed by supervisor as it relates to the wetout process.



Responsibilities Position Responsibilities & Accountabilities

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Operate office equipment including computers and supporting software applications.
  • Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Organize and communicate with the TCC as to the status of trucks being loaded or unloaded.
  • Red/Tag Green/Tag process. Communicate issues or problems with trucks.
  • Coordinate hazardous drum shipments, responsible for maintaining hazardous drum staging area and supplies.
  • Load and unload totes in trailers according to customer requirements.
  • General forklift maintenance and reporting maintenance necessities
  • Ensure proper equipment and materials are in place.
  • Ensure bill of ladings for all loads are in trucks and ensure that all vehicles contain proper submittal documentation if necessary.
  • Receive all resin, chemicals, liners and materials in computer Inventory system. Move and coordinate pallets of tube as required.
  • Personally, participate and assist in all wetout processes.
  • Participate in after hour calls concerning equipment located at the wetout facility and informational calls from drivers/field crews regarding fleet equipment and deliveries. Document call logs and forward to appropriate management for decision making requirements. Examples - unit on road needs repaired, driver calls forward to TCC or call TCC and give drivers number. Text/email management (Plant Manager/Supervisor) details regarding call.


Qualifications

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and must have 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing type environment. Must have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within our industry.

  • Language Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are mandatory. Ability to effectively communicate and present information to management, direct reports, customers, suppliers and other employees of the organization. 

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and apply basic statistical, algebraic and geometric concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volumes, etc. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to use computer to enter data and do relatively routine calculations.

  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Knowledge of: Methods and techniques of maintaining and repairing plant equipment, machinery and related facilities. Lubricants used in plant equipment. Basic electrical knowledge. Fundamentals of pipefitting and fabrication. Operational characteristics of maintenance equipment and tools. Metering and measuring devices related to electrical, hydraulic and mechanical devices. Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications. Plant shipping and receiving procedures. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Organization Skills: Position requires individual to have strong organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to document findings and corrective actions. Must be a strong communicator able to take initiative and function independently.
  • Computer-Based: Ability to work with spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.  Ability to learn new applications quickly. Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word and Power Point) required.

  • Physical Demands: In the performance of duties for this position, the employee is:  regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and taste or smell; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 75 pounds).  Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Ability for extended concentration. 
  • Work Environment: In performing the duties for this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts inside a manufacturing facility, as well as working outside in all weather conditions (at job sites with moving vehicles and mechanical operations).  Will be occasionally exposed to heights, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Travel by automobile and airplane, as required.
