JOB DESCRIPTION:

 Tasks and Responsibilities of Chief Mate/Senior DPO include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the Navigation, DP or anchor operations in general during his watch
  • Responsible for the general stability of the vessel and as such for the registration of all deck loads and additional weights
  • Responsible for the supervision, training, and evaluation of all persons in the Bridge crew and maintains and administers discipline to vessel personnel.
  • Responsible for co-ordination of all deck, crane, helicopter and supply boat operations during his watch (While project operations are in progress, the above should be done in close consultation with the OCM / Superintendent and / or Deck Foreman)
  • Responsible for potable water checks prior to bunkering and correct chlorine dosing of bunkered water
  • Responsible to be familiar with manuals and procedures, which are applicable for the function, as laid down in the vessel SMS.
  • Ensuring the quantity and quality of potable water.
  • Ensuring compliance with and relevant revisions of ship specific manuals under the responsibility of the bridge
  • Planned Maintenance (PM), including spare parts inventory, for deck and hotel equipment when not covered specifically by the engineering department. PM activities and results must be reported to Chief
  • Responsible to ensure that correct PPE is in use by personnel under his authority
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the vessels Garbage Management Plan
  • Responsible for maintenance of deck and hotel equipment not covered by the engineering department
  • Sets watches, assigns jobs, approves overtime and ensures that assigned jobs are completed successfully by bridge personnel.
  • Completion, issuance and maintenance of McDermott HSE related reports and documents i.e. statistics, inspection reports, meeting minutes.
  • Monitoring personnel manifested to join the vessel to ensure they hold current prerequisite training for the designation.
  • Identifies maintenance needs, sets and revises priorities, and assigns maintenance activities.
  • Requisitions supplies necessary for the safe efficient operations of vessel.
  • Acts as the vessels Response Coordinator with reference to the Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP)
  • To be familiar with, and capable of operating the vessels GMDSS and other radio and navigational equipment
  • To ensure that adequate registration of deck loads is maintained during his watch.
  • Accurately maintain logbooks, the planned maintenance system and spare part control for deck related equipment
  • Assist with medical emergencies as they occur.
  • Participate in daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Act as primary Vessel Security Officer. Maintain Vessel Security Plan and conduct security drills.
  • Ensure current MARSEC levels are followed onboard
  • To be familiar with all Company procedures, including the Safety Management System, applicable to his duties
  • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work in accordance with the established safety standards and work practices.
  • Taking part in emergency and occupational onboard training such as, the use of self-contained breathing apparatus, fire-fighting, man overboard exercises, lifeboat launching, security drills and/or other training as applicable for the function
  • Wearing, inspecting and caring for required personal protective equipment.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Knowledge and experience in the offshore industry with at least 5 years experience in a similar Mechanical role
  • High school graduate
  • Mechanical Engineering Certificate
  • Fluent both in spoken and written English
  • Knowledge of DP Vessel operations
  • STCW95 Reg:
  • II/2 Master,
  • IV/2 GMDSS,
  • VI/4-1 Medical First Aid
  • VI/5 Ship Security Officer
  • VI/2-2 Fast Rescue Craft (If assigned to FRC)
  • Nautical Institute Full DP Operators Certificate 
  • STCW medical fitness certificate
  • Minimum: 360 Days Sea Time documented as OICNW of which 180 days must be as OICNW on vessels engaged in offshore construction operations
